FaIRchild Semiconductor (FaIRchild SemicONductor) announced the introduction of the linear LED driver product FAN5622 / 24 / 26, the new product for space-constrained applications requiring LCD display and keyboard lighting (such as mobile phones, blood glucose meters and other portable applications), compared to Other solutions can save up to 60% of board space. Fairchild's FAN5622 / 24 / 26 is designed to eliminate the need for additional passive components in the charge pump and series boost LED drivers, reducing overall component count. These linear LED drivers also provide an easy-to-use control interface with minimal component count and simplify design.
The FAN5622 / 24 / 26 is a 2, 4-, and 6-channel current-sink linear LED driver for backlighting of main LCD displays or keypads for portable electronics.
The FAN5622 / 24 / 26 has a very low 50mV dropout voltage and allows the LED to be driven without the use of an inductor or flyback capacitor. The user can program the brightness level of the LED output through a single-wire control interface and edit 32 linear dimming steps. And by applying digital pulses to the interface to turn the LEDs on and off, the user simply controls the state using simple methods to achieve higher dimming resolution. These LED drivers also have high peak efficiency (92%) Extends battery life for portable applications.
For design and component engineers, Fairchild's LED driver FAN5622 / 24 / 26 is cost-effective, providing a simplified design and providing a smaller overall volume than either a charge pump or an inductive boosting solution. The FAN5622 / 24 / 26 provides lower overall bill of materials (BOM) costs and shortens the time to market for portable designs that do not require complex lighting solutions.
Other features of these LED drivers include: wide input voltage range (2.7 to 5.5V); short circuit, undervoltage and overtemperature protection; and shutdown current less than 1μA. The FAN5624 is available in a micro-MLP package (1.4 x 1.8mm) , Compared with other packaging solutions by about 60%; FAN5626 uses a 1.6 x 2.1mm MicroPAK? MLP package, a volume reduction of about 20%.
